Dunfermline Athletic fought their way to a 1-0 win over Ayr United tonight to move top of Scottish League One.
Faissal El Bakhtaoui had an early glimpse of goal, but his low drive was well held by David Hutton.
A few minutes later, the visiting forward should have done better than strike the foot of the post after Hutton fumbled a routine catch.
At the other end, Ryan Scully did well to hold on to Alan Forrest's drive after it took a wicked deflection en route to goal.
The visitors took the lead shortly before the half hour mark when El Bakhtaoui lashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
Michael Donald almost responded immediately, but Scully parried the strike away from danger.
The Dunfermline goalkeeper was kept busy throughout the second half, and he turned away shots from Peter Murphy and Kevin McKinlay, but the home side were unable to find a way past the 21-year-old as the visitors held on to move to the top of the league.
