Gavin Swankie scored twice as Forfar Athletic edged to a 3-2 win over Ayr United in Scottish League One this evening.
The visitors looked sharp from the start, and were able to break the deadlock just 11 minutes into the tie, when Swankie tapped in from a cross.
The hosts started to see more of the ball as the first half progressed, forcing an equaliser through a powerful Craig Malcolm finish following a corner.
However, Forfar were able to edge back in front just before the break, as Chris Templeman caught Ayr's defence out with a quick break on the counter-attack before driving the ball home.
Kevin Kyle had a chance to get United back on level terms early in the second half, but saw his header saved on the line by Rab Douglas, while Michael Donald put his effort just wide moments later.
Their dominance paid off just after the hour mark though, as Martyn Campbell managed to bundle the ball over for the equaliser.
Ayr remained on level terms for just five minutes, as Swankie was able to gather the ball from an attempted Jackson Longridge clearance, and looped it in for his second of the night.
The hosts fought hard to come from behind for the third time, but Forfar were able to defend their lead and see out the win.
