AZ have been beaten by Ajax in the Johan Cruijff Shield 3-2 after extra time, squandering a two-goal lead on the way.
The first half had few real chances with both sides looking nervous, but the game picked up towards the end of the first 45 minutes.
Just seven minutes into the second half AZ went ahead through Johann Berg Gudmundsson after a strong start to the period.
The game opened up and in 68 minutes AZ looked to have wrapped up the result with a second goal from Aron Johansson.
However, two minutes later Ajax were right back in the contest as Jeffrey Gouweleeuw netted to set up a frantic final 20 minutes.
They were level after another five minutes through Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, which took the game into extra time.
In extra time Ajax completed the turnaround, Siem de Jong bagging the winner to break AZ hearts.
