Barcelona are hoping to avoid equalling an unwanted losing record in their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening.
The Catalans have lost nine of their 12 matches against the Bavarians in Europe's elite competition, including the last five in a row, and a sixth successive defeat this week would see them join their opponents in possession of an unenviable all-time Champions League record.
Only Bayern themselves have lost more games against a single opponent in the competition's history, losing 10 times to reigning champions Real Madrid.
The Bundesliga champions have already won the most Champions League away matches against Barcelona, winning on three of their five trips to Camp Nou, while they are one of only three teams to have won more than they have lost away at Barcelona in the competition, alongside Juventus and Real Madrid.
The Germans travel to Barcelona having only suffered defeat in one of their last five Champions League away games against Spanish sides, a 1-0 loss to Villarreal in last season's quarter-final first leg.
Barcelona have never lost three in a row at home to German opposition; however a 3-0 Champions League loss to Bayern in September 2021 and a 3-2 defeat in the Europa League last season to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt make that a very real possibility.
There is also the possibility that the Blaugrana are eliminated from the group stages in consecutive campaigns for the first time since 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. body check tags ::
