Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has said that his team 'forgot about their defence' during Wednesday's Champions League contest with Inter Milan at Camp Nou.

The Catalan outfit led 1-0 against the Italian giants but then trailed 2-1 and 3-2, with Lewandowski's second of the match in the 92nd minute to securing a point in a 3-3 draw.

Barcelona are third in Group C, boasting just four points from their four matches, with Inter Milan in second three points clear, and Bayern Munich already advancing to the knockout round.

Inter would secure second if they beat Viktoria Plzen at home next time out, with Barcelona seemingly set to drop into the Europa League for the second season in a row.

Lewandowski has claimed that his side were so focused on finding the back of the net on Wednesday evening that they forgot to defend.

"We wanted to score more goals so much that sometimes we forgot about our defence and their counter-attacks. Inter got too easily under our goal and created situations that left them with a double," he told Mundo Deportivo.

Lewandowski also admitted that his side "lack stability" due to their recent injury problems, with Andreas Christensen, Hector Bellerin, Ronald Araujo, Memphis Depay and Jules Kounde all on the sidelines.

"We've had a lot of injuries to the team in the recent weeks, it's not easy to change the lineup all the time. We lack stability," said the Poland international.

The 34-year-old also said that Inter are "a tough opponent" for a centre-forward due to their defensive qualities.

"Inter are a tough opponent for a striker. They defend five players, and there is also a defensive midfielder. So we tried to attack with more players so that one of us could lose coverage. We scored three goals but conceded the same. We were disappointed for not having won," he added.

Lewandowski's brace against Inter means that he has now scored 14 goals in 12 appearances since joining Barcelona from Bayern Munich over the summer.

The centre-forward has five Champions League goals to his name this term, while he has netted nine times in La Liga and is set to lead the Barcelona attack against Real Madrid in El Clasico this weekend.

"I think Real Madrid is playing well, they have great players in all directions," Lewandowski told Barca TV in a recent interview.

"We have to prepare well and keep the ball and without the ball, we have to press them. In the end, they are a great team with a lot of experience and I think playing against Real Madrid is always difficult."

Barcelona boss Xavi, meanwhile, speaking after Wednesday's contest at Camp Nou, said that his side 'do not deserve to play in the Champions League'. body check tags ::
