Barcelona ensured that they would qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League as Group E winners with a thumping 6-1 win over Roma at Camp Nou on Tuesday.

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both scored doubles for the home side, while Gerard Pique and Adriano also got in on the act as the Spanish giants led by six entering second-half stoppage time.

Roma, who are still second in the group despite the heavy defeat, scored their consolation through Edin Dzeko, who recovered from a penalty miss in the final 10 minutes to head past Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at how each player performed in Barcelona.

BARCELONA

Goal

Marc-Andre ter Stegen: Was busier than the scoreline suggests. Could do nothing about Dzeko's late header, but kept out a stinging strike from Iago Falque and also denied Dzeko from the penalty spot. (7/10)

Defence

Dani Alves: Another strong performance from the Brazilian, whose rampaging runs forward caused Roma problems all night. Set up Suarez for the game's opener and was a threat for the whole contest. (8/10)

Gerard Pique: Was substituted moments after scoring Barcelona's fourth just before the hour. Did not have much to do defensively so spent most of his time driving forward from defence. (8/10)

Thomas Vermaelen: Tidy enough at the heart of the back four, but gave away a penalty in the final 10 minutes after a collision with Dzeko. Still struggling to fully establish himself in the Barcelona XI. (7/10)

Jordi Alba: Quieter than Alves on the opposite side, but still had a strong game for the hosts. Always willing to help out in the final third and kept check of Alessandro Florenzi down the other end. (7/10)

Midfield

Ivan Rakitic: Ultimately overshadowed by his teammates in the final third, but the Croatian went about his business in the middle of the park and kept the ball moving quickly in the correct areas. (7/10)

Sergio Busquets: Given a rest for the second 45 minutes after another wonderful performance. Defensively brilliant and picked out a number of sensational through passes in the first period. (8/10)

Sergi Roberto: Another strong and composed performance from the midfielder, who pulled the strings in the middle of the park. Was replaced just past the hour following a heavy challenge. (7/10)

Attack

Neymar: Might not have joined Suarez and Neymar on the scoresheet, but he was once again a joy to watch. Linked effortlessly with his fellow attackers and Roma simply had no answer to his class. (8/10)

Luis Suarez: Another two goals for the Uruguay international, who opened the scoring before netting a wonderful volley late in the first period. Also delivered a stunning pass in to Messi for his first. (9/10)

Lionel Messi: Returned to the XI following two months on the sidelines and looked back to full fitness. Scored twice on the night and also set up Pique for the centre-back's goal just before the hour. (9/10)

Substitutes

Sergi Samper: Has struggled for first-team football this season despite his potential, but the Spaniard was given the second 45 minutes here and looked calm and composed in possession of the ball. (7/10)

Marc Bartra: Would have been disappointed not to have started ahead of Vermaelen, but the centre-back was given the final 35 minutes of action after replacing the goalscorer Pique. (7/10)

Adriano: Got in on the scoring act in the 77th minute when he thumped one past the Roma goalkeeper after Neymar had been denied from the spot. Enjoyed his attacking role in the latter stages. (7/10)

ROMA

Goal

Wojciech Szczesny: Beaten six times on the night, but cannot really be blamed for the defeat. Made a couple of really smart saves throughout the contest and lacked protection from his back four. (6/10)

Defence

Maicon: Had the look of a player that is entering the latter stages of his career. Did not have many opportunities to get forward and really struggled to deal with Neymar down the other end. (5/10)

Antonio Rudiger: Has drawn praise for his performances this season, but this was a really tough night for the centre-back. Certainly not the first defender to struggle against Barcelona's attacking trio. (5/10)

Kostas Manolas: Made a couple of decent interceptions, especially in the early stages of the match, but was another that just could not live with the home side's movement in the final third of the field. (5/10)

Lucas Digne: Was prepared to break forward when the opportunity arose, but the left-back lacked options in the final third. Did not know whether to go with Messi when he drifted off the right. (5/10)

Midfield

Seydou Keita: Did his best to stem the flow of traffic and was one of the few in white prepared to put his foot on the ball in the middle of the park. Not exactly a happy evening on his return to Barcelona. (6/10)

Radja Nainggolan: Tasked with putting pressure on Barcelona's midfield trio, but found it very difficult to make an impression and was replaced at the interval by the more attacking Juan Iturbe. (5/10)

Miralem Pjanic: Has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days, but the midfielder did not make too much of an impression here. Wasted a couple of free kicks in dangerous positions. (5/10)

Attack

Alessandro Florenzi: Could not repeat his heroics from the first leg, when he scored a spectacular long-range strike. Was picked in a wide right position and just could not get into the game in Barcelona. (5/10)

Edin Dzeko: Comfortably his team's best player on the night. Passed up a glorious chance in the first period and also missed from the spot, but got his name on the scoresheet late on with a header. (6/10)

Iago Falque: Was not seen in the first period and only really had one attempt in the second - a close-range strike that Ter Stegen kept out. Just could not get into the game due to the home side's dominance. (5/10)

Substitutes

Juan Iturbe: Certainly made a difference for his team after entering at the break. Was the one player in a white shirt prepared to ask questions of the Barcelona back four with his movement. (6/10)

William Vainqueur: Introduced in the 58th minute, just two minutes after Roma had fallen 4-0 behind. Picked up his team's only booking of the night and struggled to get into the match. (5/10)

Salih Ucan: Introduced in the 75th minute and less than two minutes later, he brought Neymar to the ground as Barcelona won a penalty. Not the best cameo performance from the 21-year-old. (5/10)
