Teammates of Gerard Pique have reached out and supported the centre-back after the Barcelona defender was subjected to jeers and boos from minorities of the home support during their 2-0 victory over Slovakia.
The Spaniard is a target for Real Madrid fans, after he openly criticised Cristiano Ronaldo, while several Spain fans disagree with his stance on Catalan independence.
Despite being booed by sections of the home crowd, the majority cheered on the defender alongside the rest of the squad.
"The whistles at Pique are unfortunate," coach Vicente del Bosque said, according to Goal.com.
"I do not understand it. I think it's lamentable. People come to watch football and he played very well today."
Andres Iniesta, Jordi Alba and Santi Carzola also voiced their disapproval of the jeers during their Group C victory over the Slovakians.
