Barcelona missing four players for Valencia clash

Barcelona will again be without the services of Ronald Araujo, Memphis Depay, Andreas Christensen and Sergi Roberto for Saturday's La Liga contest with Valencia at Mestalla.

Araujo faces a battle to return before the World Cup following thigh surgery, but Memphis and Christensen are making progress in their recoveries from hamstring and ankle problems.

Neither player has been included in the squad for the clash with Valencia, though, and there will also be no Roberto, who is facing an extended period on the sidelines due to a dislocated shoulder.

Barcelona did not suffer any fresh problems in their 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

However, head coach Xavi is expected to make changes for Saturday's league game, with Eric Garcia, Raphinha, Ansu Fati and Gavi among those pushing for starts.

"They are pretty much ready. We will try and have them ready for Tuesday. To give them minutes without risk. We will maybe see them play against Almeria," Xavi said when asked about Christensen and Memphis.

Barcelona have another four games before the campaign breaks for the World Cup, taking on Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Tuesday, before facing Almeria and Osasuna in La Liga.

The Catalan outfit saw their hopes of reaching the last-16 stage of the Champions League come to an end last week due to Inter Milan's home success over Viktoria Plzen.

"We will not stop working and I feel total confidence in the project. It is not what we expected. We have very high expectations and we have lost the Champions League," Xavi added.

"We are not in a good situation, we have to put up with the criticism and keep working. I have the confidence of the president, the board, Mateu [Alemany] and Jordi [Cruyff]. I have no choice but to continue working."

Barcelona are currently second in the La Liga table, three points behind leaders Real Madrid, and Xavi wants his side to focus on their form in Spain's top flight.

"We have talked about changing the chip and that we are in a good dynamic in La Liga. We have been self-critical but we have been lacking in the big games," he added.

"We have to turn the page and think about La Liga. We are fighting for the title and this is the dynamic to follow. We are together in the changing room and tomorrow (Saturday) is a great moment to react."

Barcelona have won nine of their 11 league matches this season, with their only defeat coming in El Clasico.

Barcelona squad vs. Valencia:

Ter Stegen, Pena, Tenas; Bellerin, Pique, Alonso, Alba, Kounde, E Garcia, Balde; Busquets, Pedri, Kessie, F de Jong, Gavi, Torre; Dembele, Lewandowski, Fati, Torres, Raphinha
