Barcelona are reportedly unhappy with their current shirts, made by Nike, as they absorb too much sweat.
The Spanish champions have met with the sports giant on the issue after players said that the moisture being absorbed was hampering their performance.
Spanish newspaper El Pais first reported claims from Barca players, including Messi, that the shirts more than doubled in weight by half-time.
Nike said it is "working to find a solution to the problem".
Tennis player Rafael Nadal experienced a similar problem with his own Nike Dri-FIT gear at the Australian Open in January.
In England Arsenal, Manchester United, and Aston Villa all wear Nike but there have been no similar issues.
Barca saw off BATE Borisov 5-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
