Luis Enrique to be named new Spain boss?

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is reportedly the preferred choice to take over from Fernando Hierro as the new manager of Spain following their early World Cup exit.

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is reportedly on the verge of being confirmed as Spain's new manager.

La Roja endured a turbulent World Cup campaign this summer, sacking manager Julen Lopetegui just one day before the start of the tournament after he agreed to take over at Real Madrid.

Fernando Hierro stepped in as interim boss, but Spain were knocked out by hosts Russia in the last 16 and Hierro subsequently stepped down from his role.

The Mirror reports that Enrique is now the preferred choice to take over and will be recommended by Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales at a meeting today.

The likes of Quique Flores, Michel, Roberto Martinez and Victor Sanchez del Amo have also been linked with the role, but Enrique is considered the frontrunner for a two-year deal which would take him through to Euro 2020.

The 48-year-old has been out of football since leaving Barcelona last summer and has previously been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea.
