Barcelona manager Xavi has lavished praise on Pedri for his performance in Sunday's 1-0 win over Alaves.

Frenkie de Jong netted the only goal of the contest in the latter stages, as the Catalan giants secured an important three points on their return to La Liga action.

Xavi was keen to pay tribute to Pedri for his display at the weekend, with the Barcelona head coach claiming that the "marvellous" teenager is "the model player".

"He's a marvellous little player, and at 19, to do everything well is spectacular. How he looks in possession, how he perceives the game, he is excellent and the model player," Marca quotes Xavi as saying.

"He can lead by character, quality, ambition, it's great to have him back in the team."

Pedri has only made seven appearances at club level this season due to injury, but the Spain international has now featured in his side's last two matches against Athletic Bilbao and Alaves.
