Barcelona eye Renan Lodi as Jordi Alba successor?

Barcelona eye Atletico Madrid's Renan Lodi as a potential successor for Jordi Alba, according to a report.

Barcelona have reportedly identified Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi as an ideal successor for Jordi Alba at Camp Nou.

Alba has made 388 appearances and marched to five La Liga titles during a glittering nine-year spell with Barcelona, but the Spaniard is set to turn 33 next year.

The left-back's deal in Catalonia is not due to expire until 2024, but Ronald Koeman's side are already thought to be planning for the future without the 82-assist defender.

According to Todofichajes, Barcelona have been alerted to Lodi's availability, with the Brazilian struggling for regular game time under Diego Simeone at Atletico.

Lodi's contract at Atletico runs until 2025, but the report claims that Barca could strike a cut-price £17m deal for the 23-year-old, who saw a move to Lyon fall through earlier this summer.

Lodi has only played 15 minutes of top-flight football so far this season, while he started just 11 of Atletico's 38 La Liga games in their title-winning 2020-21 season.
