Barnsley made Hull City pay for a host of missed chances to win this afternoon's FA Cup tie at the KC Stadium by a single goal.
Chris Dagnall made the breakthrough 20 minutes from time from close range after he reacted quickest to save from Hull keeper Eldin Jakupovic.
Hull controlled possession for the much of the match but failed to make their dominance count as Luke Steele kept Robert Koren, Jay Simpson and Seyi Olofinjana at bay with a string of fine saves.
The home side also had a strong penalty shout turned down when Stephen Quinn tangled with Kelvin Etuhu, much to the dismay of Tigers boss Steve Bruce.
Barnsley survived a late onslaught to qualify for the fifth round and keep their recent revival under David Flitcroft alive and kicking.
