Charlton put six past nine-man Barnsley to secure a comfortable win at Oakwell.

Charlton Athletic put in a stunning display to smash Barnsley 6-0 at Oakwell in the Championship.

Goals from Bradley Pritchard and Johnnie Jackson gave the Addicks a 2-0 half-time lead before Yann Kermorgant, Callum Harriott, Salim Kerkar and Ricardo Fuller heaped more misery on the visitors.

The Tykes' afternoon turned further sour when both Stephen Dawson and Tom Kennedy were sent off.

The visitors got off to the perfect start by taking the lead inside four minutes, Bradley Pritchard slotting home the rebound following Kermorgant's split effort.

The Addicks doubled their advantage 16 minutes later. Pritchard was again involved before laying it off to Jackson, who dummied his marker before burying the ball into the back of the net.

Jackson nearly made it three shortly after with a dipping effort, but Luke Steele just managed to tip the shot-come-cross over the bar.

Barnsley nearly found a response swiftly after introducing Jason Scotland in place of the injured Tomasz Cywka, but Jacob Mellis's effort was blocked on the line by Rhoys Wiggins.

The hosts came close again moments later, but Bobby Hassell's free header was nodded wide from Kennedy's corner.

Barnsley nearly made the perfect start immediately after the break when Scotland played through Chris Dagnall, who went one-on-one at a wide angle, but slashed his effort off target.

However, Charlton instantly responded when Kermorgant headed home from a superb Wiggins cross.

It was four on the hour mark when Pritchard found Harriott on the left, who drilled a swerving shot at Steele, who misjudged the flight of the ball before spilling it over the line.

Barnsley's day went from bad to worse just two minutes later when Dawson was sent off for a reckless lunge on Kermorgant.

Charlton nearly made it five just 20 minutes from time, but Fuller shot narrowly wide of the target after being played through by Jonathan Obika.

Obika then went close after spinning his marker and taking on two players, but his shot went tamely wide.

However, Obika had a hand in the goal as Charlton made it five, when his shot deflected into the path of Salim Kerkar, who converted his chance.

Barnsley were reduced to nine men a few minutes from time, when Kennedy brought down Fuller, with the latter clean through on goal.

There was still time for Fuller to add a sixth in injury time to secure a huge win for Charlton.
