The hosts broke the deadlock four minutes before the half-time interval when Wahbi Khazri found the target with a direct free kick.
Florian Thauvin doubled Bastia's advantage five minutes into the second half, shooting home from close range after receiving Jerome Rothen's cross.
Thauvin scored his second goal of the evening on 71 minutes, collecting Anthony Modeste's through-ball before smashing in from the right side of the Brest box.
Things became worse for Brest when goalkeeper Joan Hartock was sent off for bringing down Modeste inside his own penalty area in the 77th minute
Modeste himself stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake from 12 yards.
