Bayer Leverkusen general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser has revealed that the club have held talks with Besiktas over a late move for Portuguese striker Hugo Almeida.
Leverkusen have been active in their search to provide top scorer Stefan Kiessling with competition in attack, with Eren Derdiyok rejoining the club on a season-long loan yesterday.
Holzhauser admitted that they want extra firepower to challenge in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League this season, refusing to rule out another addition before the transfer window closes.
He told the Cologne Express: "We are looking to add a prolific striker as we are in talks with a few players and clubs.
"Hugo Almeida and Eren Derdiyok are two of the players we have been in touch with."
Sami Hypia's side have taken maximum points from their first three league games this season, ahead of a clash with Schalke this evening.
