Wayne Rooney starts for Manchester United in tonight's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich in Germany.

Wayne Rooney has returned to the Manchester United starting XI for tonight's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich in Germany.

The striker had been a doubt for the game after missing Saturday's 4-0 win over Newcastle United with a toe injury.

United have made a further four changes, with David de Gea, Nemanja Vidic, Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck all included.

Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Adnan Januzaj and Javier Hernandez are among those on the bench for the visitors.

Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos and Mario Mandzukic are the only Bayern players to retain their places following Saturday's surprise 1-0 defeat to Augsburg. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez both miss out through suspension.

Bayern: Neuer; Dante, Boateng, Alaba; Lahm, Gotze, Kroos; Ribery, Mandzukic, Robben, Muller
Subs: Raeder, van Buyten, Rafinha, Pizarro, Weiser, Hojbjerg, Weihrauch

Man Utd: De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Evra; Fletcher, Carrick; Valencia, Rooney, Kagawa; Welbeck
Subs: Lindegaard, Büttner, Ferdinand, Giggs, Januzaj, Young, Hernandez
