Bayern Munich defender Holger Badstuber ruptured his cruciate ligament in the Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund this evening.
The German suffered the injury in a collision with Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze, who went on to score the visitors' equaliser in a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena.
"Bad news for Badstuber," Bayern said on their website. "His cruciate ligament tear has been confirmed."
Munich's lead at the top of the Bundesliga is now eight points after today's round of fixtures.
