Mario Gotze has revealed that the prospect of quitting Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window never crossed his mind.
The German playmaker was heavily linked with a switch to Juventus, having reportedly fallen out with coach Pep Guardiola.
The ex-Barcelona boss was thought to have had reservations over using the 23-year-old in the bigger games, but Gotze is optimistic that he will earn chances on the big stage this time around.
"For me it was never a topic to leave Bayern Munich. I feel good at Bayern," he told reporters.
"I appreciate the fans, the manager, the team, everything. I had two good years, we've won titles. Of course sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.
"I'm excited for the new season and I have high aims. I'll work on myself and try to get more minutes on the pitch. I'm optimistic."
Gotze was on target twice as Germany beat Poland 3-1 in Euro 2016 qualifying on Friday night.
