Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has announced his intention to retire from football in 2018.
The 31-year-old is one of the most decorated players of his generation, winning seven Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokal crowns and the Champions League during his time with Bayern.
The defender-turned-midfielder also guided Germany to World Cup glory in Brazil last summer before retiring from international football with 113 caps to his name.
"Once again, it is most clear to me that I am going to finish [my career] in 2018," Lahm told Sport Bild.
"It's good for me to be able to prepare for a definite date."
Lahm, who has made 436 appearances for Bayern to date, also confirmed that he plans to stay at the club "in some capacity" after hanging up his boots.
