Bastian Schweinsteiger undergoes surgery in Zurich to have a bone fragment removed from his right heel.

Bayern Munich vice-captain Bastian Schweinsteiger has undergone surgery on his right heel following the culmination of the season.

Schweinsteiger helped his side to a 3-2 win over Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal final on Saturday night, which completed the treble for Bayern.

The midfielder travelled to Zurich on Monday to have a bone fragment on his right calcaneus removed in order for him to be fit for Bayern's pre-season schedule that begins on 26 June.

Schweinsteiger will return to Munich on Tuesday, with recovery time expected to be 10 days.
