Benedikt Howedes scored a flukey second-half equaliser as Schalke 04 came from behind to hold Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw in their Bundesliga clash at the Veltins-Arena this evening.
Thomas Muller came close to giving the visitors an early lead, but he saw his effort saved by Ralf Fahrmann.
Bayern did manage to go ahead in the 10th minute through Robert Lewandowski, who exchanged passes with Sebastian Rode inside the box, before slotting an effort into the net for his first Munich goal.
Pep Guardiola's men were in control and Xherdan Shaqiri almost added a second with a strike from range that went just wide of the post.
After the break, Julian Draxler forced Manuel Neuer into a save from his header as Schalke looked for an equalising goal.
Just past the hour-mark, the hosts were able to draw level as debutant Xavi Alonso's attempted goal-line clearance hit Howedes and cannoned into the back of the net.
Both teams pushed for a winner late on, but they were unable to find the net as the game finished on level terms.
