Benfica demolished Belenenses 6-0 to move to the top of the Primeira Liga with their third win of the season this evening.
Konstantinos Mitroglou, on loan from Championship side Fulham, put the home side ahead after five minutes following a cross from strike partner Jonas.
It was Jonas who then put Benfica 2-0 up just over 10 minutes later after latching on to a Goncalo Guedes pass and hitting the back of the net.
The Brazil international striker doubled his tally for the evening with five minutes to go before the break, this time from close range following a Andreas Samaris corner.
Into the second half, and it was 4-0 within eight minutes as Mitroglou picked up his second of the game from close range.
Nicolas Gaitan then wanted in on the action and scored Benfica's fifth of the night 30 minutes from full time, with Jonas continuing his fine form to provide the assist.
Talisca, another Brazil international forward, finished the scoring just three minutes later with a shot from outside of the box.
Loanee Raul Jimenez had an attempt saved with just under 20 minutes to go, and while Belenenses had their own chance with a Fabio Sturgeon shot, Benfica finished off in a comfortable position.
As a result, Belenenses are yet to win this season and are 14th in the Primeira Liga following four games.
