Deportivo La Coruna have edged just outside La Liga's European places following a 2-1 win at Real Betis in Thursday night's clash at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
After a goalless first half, the visitors took the lead in the 54th minute when Federico Cartabia edged into space 30 yards out before letting rip with a ferocious effort from distance that bounced off the bar and into the net.
Just five minutes later, however, Daniel Ceballos slipped a pass through to Petros just outside the box, with the 26-year-old showing good composure inside the area to fire home past German Lux.
Deportivo strove to edge back in front and were duly rewarded in the 72nd minute when Faycal Fajr latched on to a Celso Borges pass on the edge of the penalty area before sending a first-time shot into the bottom-left corner.
Despite Betis's laboured efforts to claim something from the match, the visitors were able to see the game out and clinch all three points, the result seeing them climb to seventh in the La Liga table. Pepe Mel's charges, meanwhile, remain in 11th place.
