Blackburn Rovers have appointed Gary Bowyer as manager on a 12-month rolling contract.
The 41-year-old took charge of the Championship club on a temporary basis in March following the sacking of Michael Appleton.
Despite a disappointing campaign, the side managed to avoid relegation to League One.
"It is a huge honour and a proud moment for me," Bowyer told Rovers' official website.
"I have been at the club for nine years, I know the traditions. The foundation of the club was built on hard work and that is what we need to produce."
Bowyer was forced to cut short his playing career in 1997 through injury.
