Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has conceded that his side were not "ruthless" enough in their 1-0 defeat to Watford on Saturday.
Rovers had several chances at Vicarage Road, but were unable to beat Hornets stopper Heurelho Gomes and were made to rue their missed opportunities when Odion Ighalo fired Slavisa Jokanovic's men to the three points.
Bowyer told Sky Sports News: "It is explainable in the sense we didn't take our chances, we weren't ruthless enough with that and we didn't defend the scruffy corner well enough.
"Overall, performance-wise, we were by far the better team and what it does do is it gives us, if you take the emotion out of it, the confidence that we're not going to be too far away.
"A lot of people talk about the gap, the points, but if we perform like that from now until the end of the season we'll be very close."
Blackburn are now ninth in the Championship table, 11 points adrift in the race for the playoffs.
