The Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate is suspended following heavy rainfall.

The Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate has been suspended following heavy rainfall.

Buenos Aires has been hit with constant rain since the early hours of Saturday morning, which has made large parts of the playing surface at Boca's La Bombonera stadium unplayable.

The final was due to start at 5pm local time (8pm GMT), but the weather conditions have meant that the contest has had to be delayed for 24 hours, with a new kickoff time at 4pm local time (7pm GMT) on Sunday.

Boca and River are meeting in the final of South America's premier club competition for the first time, but nothing will be decided on Sunday, with a second leg due to occur at the home of River on November 24.

Gremio are the current holders of the Copa Libertadores, but Boca have won the competition on six previous occasions, the last of which came in 2007.

River, meanwhile, enjoyed their third success in the competition in 2015.
