Bolton Wanderers still regret not signing Danny Ings from fellow Lancashire club Burnley, manager Dougie Freedman has revealed.
Freedman tried to recruit England Under-21 striker Ings for both former club Crystal Palace and Bolton but didn't meet the Clarets' valuation, a decision he admits that he has lived to regret, with Ings finding the net 19 times already this season.
"We were very unfortunate and couldn't just strike a deal," the Manchester Evening News quotes Freedman as saying.
"Burnley turned it down as they wanted a bit more at the time. Looking back perhaps we should have stretched it a bit more."
Freedman and Bolton, searching for their first win of 2014, take on Ings and Burnley tonight at the Reebok Stadium.
