Bordeaux have defeated Newcastle United 2-0 at home to win Europa League Group D.
The hosts could have made the breakthrough as early as the third minute when Cheick Diabate shot on goal from eight yards, but Robert Elliot made a good save.
The French side continued to control proceedings at Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas and went close in the 20th minute.
First Henri Saivet shot low across the Newcastle goal and brought out a good save from Elliot, who then denied David Bellion when the Bordeaux forward tried to tuck in the rebound.
Bordeaux eventually pulled ahead in the 29th minute when Bellion slipped a pass to Fahid Benkhalfallah, whose cross was nodded home by Diabate from close range.
The visitors started the second half on a positive note, as Shola Ameobi tested Kevin Olimpa with a shot from close range.
Then moments later Mehdi Abeid fired wide from 25 yards.
Despite Newcastle's early pressure, it was Bordeaux who came closer to scoring in the second period, as Gregory Sertic clipped the outside of the post with a long-range effort.
Then on 65 minutes Sylvain Marveaux chipped at the Bordeaux goal from just inside the 18-yard box, but Olimpa claimed it with ease.
Diabate ended the game as a contest in the 73rd minute when he latched on to Andre Biyogo Poko's lofted pass and slotted the ball home through the legs of Elliot.
