Borussia Dortmund have been left frustrated after dominating a goalless first half against Schalke 04 in the Ruhr derby at Signal Iduna Park.
Schalke dominated possession in the early stages, but it was Dortmund who created the better chances as Marco Reus dragged a shot past the post before Shinji Kagawa's lobbed effort drifted just wide of the post.
Dortmund continued to waste good opportunities as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang controlled a high ball to test Timon Wellenreuther with a volley.
Schalke looked vulnerable at set pieces, too, and the visitors enjoyed a slice of luck when Nuri Sahin sent a free header straight into Wellenreuther's hands from close range.
Dortmund came even closer to breaking the deadlock before the break when Roman Neustadter headed a powerful volley from Reus against his own crossbar.
