German international Marco Reus netted a hat-trick as ten-man Borussia Dortmund overcame Frankfurt at the Westfalenstadion this evening.
His first of evening arrived with eight minutes on the clock when he collected a through-pass from Mario Gotze to slot into the net. Then, just two minutes later, he doubled Dortmund's advantage as he converted a pass by Mats Hummels from close range.
The half ended on a sour note for the home side though as full-back Julian Schieber was handed his marching orders for a late challenge on Bastian Oczipka with 32 minutes played.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Dortmund continued to control proceedings and they eventually made the game safe 25 minutes from time. Gotze was again the creator, picking out Reus, who sent a right-footed effort into the goal from 12 yards out.
The numbers were evened up in the closing stages when Frankfurt's Japanese midfielder Takashi Inui was given his second yellow card of the match.
