Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has revealed that midfielder Tyler Adams will miss the start of the season due to a back injury.
After spending a season with Leeds, Adams completed a £20m move to Bournemouth last summer following the Yorkshire club's relegation to the Championship.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, his first season with the South-coast side was hampered by injury, restricting him to just four appearances across all competitions.
Despite enduring an injury-hit campaign, Adams was included in the USA squad for the 2024 Copa America, where he started in all three group matches against Bolivia, Panama and Uruguay.
Adams to miss start of season
Although the USA failed to make it out of the group, Iraola has revealed that Adams aggravated a back issue with his involvement in the tournament.
Iraola explained that the midfielder has undergone back surgery and will now miss the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
"He finished the season with an injury in his back," Iraola told reporters in a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's friendly with League One side Wrexham in Santa Barbara.
"He wanted to play Copa America because it was very important for him, but he had restrictions and was still in pain, so two days after they were knocked out, he had surgery.
"He is out for some time. It is difficult to say how long but he won't be fit for the start of the season. But September? October? I don't know."
Bournemouth could not prevent Adams's Copa America involvement
Iraola confirmed that Bournemouth had no "choice" when he was asked why the club did not block the player's involvement in the Copa America.
"It was not our choice," Iraola added. "It is a decision for the nations, who are allowed to select players, and he wanted to play thinking the injury would get better but he felt it was getting worse."
Adams will miss all four of Bournemouth's pre-season friendlies against Wrexham, Arsenal, Rayo Vallecano and Girona.
The USA international is also set to be absent for August's three Premier League matches against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Everton.
It remains to be seen whether Adams will be fit to participate in any of Bournemouth's six Premier League fixtures across September and October. body check tags ::
