Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher hails the return of Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has hailed the return of Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter.

The Cherries midfielder was part of the side that were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday, and Carragher is pleased to see Arter back in action after a lay-off with a long-term ankle problem.

Carragher told the Daily Mail: "It was disappointing for Bournemouth to go out of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday but Eddie Howe had a major reason to smile on the way home.

"The return of Arter after a long-term ankle injury was a big plus and he did well in midfield, never afraid to put in a tackle or use the ball intelligently. He showed at Anfield in the 71 minutes he was on the pitch why he has been missed this season.

"Fitness issues have caused Bournemouth so many problems since they got promoted, with Callum Wilson, Max Gradel and Tyrone Mings all suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage, the first named being the club's best goalscorer, the others being Bournemouth's biggest ever signings."

Bournemouth are currently 17th in the Premier League table.
