Brazil will kick off their quest to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a meeting against Serbia at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on Thursday.

The Selecao are one of the major favourites at football's biggest event this year, and a win on the opening day would help set the tone nicely for the rest of the competition.

Thursday's Group G opener for the teams will be their third time of facing off and a second in consecutive World Cup tournaments.

Brazil claimed a narrow 1-0 victory in the first edition of this fixture, which came in an international friendly at Estadio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo eight years ago.

Fred grabbed the only goal of the game two minutes shy of the hour mark as Tite's men wrapped up their preparations for the 2014 World Cup in style.

Most recently, the five-time world champions came out on top against Dragan Stojkovic's men in 2018 thanks to goals either side of half time from Paulinho and Thiago Silva.

Since then, Serbia are unbeaten against South American opponents and head into the clash in Qatar off the back of five wins in their last six games.
