Brazil centre-back David Luiz reveals that he was in pain as he stepped up to score a penalty against Chile in the last 16 of the World Cup.

Brazil defender David Luiz has revealed that he was in the 'most pain he'd ever felt' as he stepped up to score a penalty against Chile in the World Cup this afternoon.

Luiz was ever-present as the hosts edged past their South American rivals with a 3-2 penalties win in the last 16, with Paris Saint-Germain's new centre-back claiming that he couldn't walk in training this week, despite bagging two goals in the match.

"I first have to thank God for everything He has done in my life, I have to thank my family and everyone who encouraged me to deal with today's challenge and I have to thank my teammates, Scolari, Runco and the rest of the medical staff that believed in me," said Luiz, according to Sky Sports News.

"They saw me in training that I couldn't even walk. When I took the penalty, it was the most pain I had I felt, but I told them (before the game) that I wanted to play, that I would do anything to play. I treated [my injury] for two days without stop."

Brazil will now face either Colombia or Uruguay in the next round of the tournament.
