Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa scored the goals as Brentford recorded a 2-0 win over West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Bees made the breakthrough in the 20th minute of the contest through Mbeumo before Wissa doubled their advantage in the closing stages of the first half, and the visitors were unable to respond.
Brentford have moved into ninth position in the Premier League table, just four points behind seventh-placed Aston Villa, while West Ham remain 15th, six points clear of the relegation zone with two games left.
West Ham boss David Moyes shuffled his pack ahead of the second leg of the Europa Conference League semi-final with AZ Alkmaar next week, with Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Declan Rice among those to drop down to the bench for the Hammers.
Brentford, meanwhile, were missing leading goalscorer Ivan Toney due to a hamstring issue but still proved to be too strong for their opponents on the afternoon.
The hosts came close to making the breakthrough in the seventh minute when Kevin Schade picked out Mikel Damsgaard with an excellent cross, but the attacker nodded wide of the post from close range.
The Bees continued to force the issue, though, and took a deserved lead in the 20th minute of the contest through Mbeumo, who placed the ball into the bottom corner with a calm finish after being found by Mathias Jensen.
West Ham's first shot of the match came in the 28th minute through Emerson Palmieri, but it was a comfortable save for David Raya between the home side's sticks.
Thomas Frank's side had four more opportunities in the spell that followed, with Wissa, Schade and Rico Henry all coming close to doubling the advantage, before Emerson somehow turned a Ben Mee shot wide of the post.
West Ham survived those four openings, but the Hammers conceded a second in the 40th minute, with Wissa nodding into the back of the net from close range after meeting a header from Mee.
The Hammers had a half-chance early in the second period, but Tomas Soucek headed over at the far post, before Wissa missed the target down the other end with an effort from inside the box.
Mbeumo then had a brilliant chance to make it 3-0 to the Bees, with the forward heading towards goal, but Angelo Ogbonna was on hand to make an excellent block.
Wissa then headed a Henry cross wide of the post in the 60th minute, with Brentford threatening to put the match completely beyond Moyes's side.
West Ham thought that they had halved the deficit in the 67th minute through Danny Ings, but the goal was ultimately disallowed for a Divin Mubama handball following a VAR check.
Lukasz Fabianski made a smart save to keep out an effort from Wissa in the 74th minute, before the West Ham goalkeeper denied Mbeumo in the final exchanges, with Brentford ultimately declaring at two following a strong performance.
Frank's side will next be in Premier League action away to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, while West Ham will follow their Europa Conference League semi-final second leg against AZ with a home fixture against Leeds United next Sunday. body check tags ::
