Bristol City chairman Colin Sexstone admits that the club will look to sell top scorer Nicky Maynard in the upcoming January transfer window.

Bristol City have said that they are looking to sell frontman Nicky Maynard in January after the Englishman failed to agree a new contract.

The Robins have been in negotiations with their top scorer as his contract expires next summer but they have failed to agree new terms.

Chairman Colin Sexstone admitted that they have "changed their tack" and are now looking to cash in on the 25-year-old in January.

"It's a mark of the club's ambition that we have tried everything we can possibly do to get Nicky signed up to a longer contract. We'd still like him to sign a contract, and we will keep trying.

"At the moment he doesn't want to discuss contracts and because we are getting close to the window, we change our tack slightly.

"Time is pushing us and we will now listen to offers."

Maynard has attracted interest from fellow Championship clubs while Fulham are said to be looking at the former Crewe man.

"Goalscorers of Nicky's class are few and far between so I expect there to be interest," added Sexstone.

"Hopefully there will be some closure in January, with either Nicky signing an extended contract or we do sell, which I think will be the best for everybody as then we can move on."

Bristol have had an indifferent start to the season and currently sit just above the drop zone in 21st.
