Tom Heaton has admitted that he was "proud" and "honoured" to have been handed the captain's armband by Burnley manager Sean Dyche.
Following the departure of Jason Shackell to Derby County, the role had been taken on by Michael Duff and Ben Mee during pre-season.
However, ahead of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Leeds United on the opening weekend of the Championship season, Dyche picked goalkeeper Heaton to lead out the team at Elland Road.
"It's brilliant. I'm very proud of that and honoured, it's a responsibility I'm looking forward to," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"I'm pleased the manager has given it to me. He only mentioned it to me on Friday and I said 'yes' straight away. All you can do is give it your all and I'm certainly looking forward to doing that."
The 29-year-old joined the Clarets from Bristol City in 2013.
