Burnley boss Sean Dyche has played down speculation linking the club with Watford striker Troy Deeney.
The Clarets are among a number of teams who are thought to be keen on signing the 26-year-old, who scored 25 goals last season.
While admitting that Deeney is a player whom he is impressed by, Dyche conceded that he is unsure whether Burnley could afford to bring the forward to Turf Moor.
"He's amongst many players I admire, good players, but we've got a certain brief from the club that we have to work to," he told Sky Sports News.
"The club has a base to build from, financially. We can't entertain £8m players, I can assure you of that."
Burnley won their second pre-season game of the summer on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley.
