Monaco are on course to close the gap to Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain after Anthony Martial gave the principality side a half-time lead away to Caen.
The hosts made an impressive start as Julien Feret saw his second-minute effort blocked before Felipe Saad forced a save out of Danijel Subasic.
Caen's defence needed to be alert to repel Martial's shot on 14 minutes after the youngster was teed up by Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho.
Midway through the half, Moutinho almost set up the breakthrough when his pass found Bernardo Silva, whose effort was stopped by Remy Vercoutre.
However, the Monegasque outfit took the lead just before the half-hour mark after Martial turned home Yannick Carrasco's cross.
Caen almost found a way back into the game on 33 minutes when Emiliano Sala's strike was saved by Subasic before Geoffrey Kondogbia went close to doubling the visitors' advantage with the interval approaching.
