Cagliari Calcio president Massimo Cellino has been arrested as part of an inquiry into the club's stadium Is Arenas.
Cellino was arrested along with the mayor of Quartu - a province of Cagliari - Mauro Contini and a local councillor.
According to Italian news agency ANSA, the men have been placed under house arrest on charges of "attempted embezzlement and forgery" for misuse of money meant for construction of the stadium.
The stadium has been deemed unfit on occasions this season, with last Saturday's 1-1 draw with AC Milan only allowed to be played at the Is Arenas on appeal after being initially moved to Turin.
