How Cameroon could line up against Serbia

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Cameroon could line up for Monday's World Cup clash with Group G rivals Serbia.

Having lost their opening Group G game at Qatar 2022, Cameroon are faced with a crucial second fixture on Monday, as they meet potential rivals for runners-up spot Serbia in Al Wakrah.

The Indomitable Lions were beaten 1-0 by Switzerland on Thursday, so head coach Rigobert Song may make a change or two to his lineup at Al-Janoub Stadium.

Bayern Munich's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has been in great form for his club of late, but his failure to fire against the Swiss could see captain Vincent Aboubakar - who has scored 33 times in his 92 previous international appearances - preferred in the centre-forward role.

Certainly, Lyon's Karl Toko Ekambi (scorer of 38 goals in 108 games for the Ligue 1 club; also netting five at this year's Africa Cup of Nations) will start in support of either man up front, with Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo - who is still seeking his first goal since pledging allegiance to the Cameroon cause - most likely to complete an attacking trident.

With Olivier Ntcham sidelined due to injury, Song's midfield could remain unchanged, as Serie A-based pair Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Martin Hongla join 24-year-old Samuel Oum Gouet of Mechelen in the engine room. Hannover's Gael Ondoua is in contention to replace the latter, though, having made a second-half cameo from the bench against Switzerland.

Ondoua recently courted controversy on social media by posting a picture with the Russian flag printed on his boots: he holds dual nationality after spending several seasons with CSKA Moscow and Anzhi Makhachkala.

A fixture at the back for several years now, Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is Cameroon's last line of defence, and the vastly-experienced Nicolas N'Koulou lines up ahead of him at the heart of Song's favoured back four.

Cameroon possible starting lineup: Onana; Fai, N'Koulou, Castelletto, Tolo; Anguissa, Ondoua, Hongla; Mbeumo, Choupo-Moting, Toko Ekambi
