Russell Slade admits that Cardiff had to dig deep for their 2-1 win over Reading.

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has admitted that his team had to grind out their 2-1 win at home to Reading on Friday.

The Bluebirds moved into the top half of the Championship table last night as they saw off the 10-man Royals at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Despite Cardiff having to put in a dogged performance during the match, Slade is happy that they were able to come away with the spoils.

"We knew this wasn't a classic, we didn't set our stall out and we had to grind our way into the game," he is quoted as saying by Wales Online.

"We wanted a clean sheet and a professional performance but we missed good opportunities to kill the game off and to concede was the biggest disappointment. If we had won 2-0 and not scored again it would have been job done.

"We got the win and I'm sure most fans will accept if we're getting the three points there will be times we don't always perform."

Cardiff continue their Championship campaign next Saturday when they make the trip to Watford.
