In-form striker Kenwyne Jones scores twice to help Cardiff seal their first win of the new Championship season by beating Huddersfield Town 3-1.

Kenwyne Jones continued his strong start to the Championship campaign by scoring twice to help Cardiff City beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 in South Wales today.

Goals from Peter Whittingham and the former Sunderland striker helped City to a 2-1 lead at the break, with Murray Wallace reducing the arrears on the stroke of half time.

However, Jones, who scored in last week's 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers, bagged his third of the season early in the second half as the Bluebirds cruised to their first win of the campaign.

Some 20 minutes elapsed before either side threatened to open the scoring, as Radoslaw Majewski came within inches of firing Huddersfield ahead when his 20-yard hit curled just wide.

However, Whittingham soon appeared and showed the Pole how it is meant to be done, with his 25-yard thump nestling in the far corner to give Cardiff the lead.

Town, who are in the hands of caretaker manager Mark Lillis following the sacking of Mark Robins, should have levelled soon after, but Jonathan Stead headed narrowly past the post.

It proved to be a costly miss, as Jones slotted home a John Brayford cross at the second attempt to give the Bluebirds a comfortable lead.

The second was not enough to earn City a two-goal lead at the break, as Wallace halved the deficit in timely fashion to give Town a glimmer of hope in the second half.

The towering Trinidad and Tobago forward continued to menace in the second half and secured his double on 56 minutes, converting a Mats Moller Daehli pass.

Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells came within the width of the woodwork from bagging his first Championship goal, but his effort crashed off the post on 75 minutes.
