Carpi have held on to secure their first ever win in Serie A by beating Torino 2-1 at Stadio Alberto Braglia.

The Serie B champions earned an unprecedented promotion to the top flight last season, but they came into the match rooted to the bottom of the table after failing to win any of their first six matches this season.

The hosts had an early chance to take the lead when their top scorer Ryder Matos forced a save from Daniele Padelli when he headed towards the bottom corner from Matteo Fedele's cross.

Marco Borriello fired over the bar as the Biancorossi continued to press, but Gaston Silva's fierce effort from Davide Zappacosta required a smart save from Vid Belec as the visitors threatened for the first time.

Maxi Lopez twice fired narrowly wide as Torino ended the first half on top, but it was Carpi who took the lead when Gabriel Silva's shot from the edge of the box hit the post and rebounded into the net off the unfortunate Padelli.

Torino had a chance to level when Emiliano Moretti met Gaston Silva's corner but the defender could not keep his header down, and after Afriyie Acquah had fired wide, the hosts went down the other end and doubled their lead.

Borriello's cross found Matos in the centre of the box and the on-loan Fiorentina forward headed home his fourth goal of the season to give the hosts a two-goal cushion.

That lasted just three minutes as Lopez scored from the spot after he had been fouled in the box by Igor Bubnjic, but Carpi saw out a historic win in relative comfort as third-placed Torino lost for only the second time this season.
