Catania have earned their first win in Serie A after controlling a clash with fellow strugglers Chievo at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.
Rolando Maran's side went into the match without a victory in five attempts but made a bright start, opening the scoring after 22 minutes through summer signing Jaroslav Plasil.
The Czech playmaker hammered home a cross from Gonzalo Bergessio, controlling it to break the deadlock from close range.
Plasil then went within inches of doubling his tally as he flashed a shot beyond the far post, with Alessio Setsu threatening soon after at the other end.
Any notion of a Chievo response was effectively stamped out early in the second half by Panagiotis Tachtsidis, who tapped in after fine approach play from Lucas Castro.
Maran's side closed out the match comfortably to move off the foot of the table, condemning Chievo to their fourth defeat in five matches.
