Catania have registered a narrow 1-0 victory over Roma at home in Serie A.
The visitors from Rome had the better chances in the opening minutes, Mattia Destro firing wide on two separate occasions.
Destro came close again just minutes later as his shot went just inches wide of the target, before Alejandro Gomez's effort from a Gonzalo Bergessio pass narrowly missed the mark for Catania.
Gomez then tested Mauro Goicoechea, while at the other end Destro had another good chance.
Michael Bradley too could have given Roma the lead when he was set up by Destro, but he shot over the crossbar from just six yards.
Those misses eventually came to haunt Roma, as Catania scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the contest just after the hour mark.
From the left Bergessio released Gomez, who then sprinted into the Roma box and scored with a delicate lob.
