Celtic lose the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against Legia Warsaw 4-1, despite the Polish side missing two penalties.

Legia Warsaw have won the first leg of their Champions League qualifier against 10-man Celtic 4-1, despite missing two penalties.

The Scottish champions got off to a good start as Callum McGregor fired in an away goal just seven minutes into the tie.

However, their lead lasted just two minutes as Miroslav Radovic turned the ball past Fraser Forster for the equaliser.

Kris Commons looked to put the Hoops back ahead in the 24th minute, getting the better of a couple of defenders before firing just high.

However, the hosts took the lead for the first time shortly before the break when Radovic added his second of the night with a header from close range.

Things got worse for the Scottish side on the brink of half time when Efe Ambrose was shown a straight red for a last-man challenge.

The Polish team tried to capitalise on their numerical advantage at the start of the second half as Ondrej Duda lined up a strike, but it went straight to Forster.

The hosts had another chance to extend their lead further just ahead of the hour mark when Charlie Mulgrew was judged to have fouled Duda, but the spot kick was wasted after Fraser Forster was sent the wrong way.

The penalty miss seemed to boost Celtic's confidence, and McGregor delivered the ball in for Commons, but the home side made the clearance before the striker could get his shot away.

Having fought hard to prevent Legia getting a third goal, Michal Zyro managed to extend their lead inside the final 10 minutes, heading in from a Radovic cross.

However, Forster prevented it from behind four a couple of minutes later when the hosts were awarded their second penalty of the night, and the keeper punched Ivica Vrdoljak's spot kick clear.

The England international had to remain alert into the final moments as Marek Saganowski looked for a late goal, but Forster did enough to hold on.

Legia kept pushing in stoppage time though, resulting in a fourth goal for the home side through Jakub Kosecki, whose finish was too powerful for Forster to stop.

The second leg takes place at Hampden Park next Wednesday, where Celtic will need to score at least three goals to remain in the competition.
