Celtic could be re-instated in this season's Europa League after Swiss side FC Sion fielded five ineligible players over the two legs of their play-off.
The Bhoys' 3-1 aggregate defeat meant they would not be in the hat for today's (Friday) group stage draw, but UEFA President Michel Platini has given them renewed hope by saying Sion could be punished for their actions.
"What is happening, there is the rules have not been respected," said Platini.
"FC Sion has not respected the rules of the transfer ban - they signed players and then played those players."
Sion breached UEFA regulations when they signed Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary three years ago, leading to transfer restrictions.
Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino added: "Sion will be in the draw, but they can be subsequently excluded."
