Celtic have revealed that they will close off a notorious section of their ground due to safety concerns.

The Scottish giants were handed a disciplinary charge by UEFA after a section of their supporters used fireworks during their Champions League clash with Cliftonville last month, causing the club to take action against the accused section that houses the Green Brigade fans group.

The Bhoys released a statement confirming the news, claiming that they had no other option but to close the section due to "overcrowding, moshing, body surfing, lateral movement and broken seating".

"We trust that supporters will recognise that the club has been placed in an impossible position," read the statement.

"It may seem to some that lateral movement is not unsafe. As noted above, that view is not shared by the Safety Advisory Group, or the club. The stadium is not designed for movement of that sort, leading to an increased risk of falling and injury.

"The movement led to seats being broken, which also presents a risk of injury. We are sure that supporters will agree that this behaviour is unsafe, particularly where there are young supporters in the area in question."

Fans with tickets in that part of the ground will be offered the chance to relocate to another stand or to receive a refund.
